New Graduate Students Orientated

The School of Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) has held an orientation programme for its freshly admitted graduate students. The event was held on September 30, 2023, at Florence Onny Auditorium aimed at preparing these students for their academic journey.The Dean of the SGSR, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, extended his warm congratulations to the new students, while emphasizing the significance of their admission to pursue postgraduate programs at GCTU. He underscored the orientation’s role in equipping students with vital information to excel within the university while encouraging them to abide by institution’s rules and work diligently to achieve their goals.

Earlier, Prof. Malcalm, who was one of the resource persons, gave a presentation on ‘Graduate School Education and Structure.’ Prof. Malcalm shared insights into the history of GCTU’s SGSR Graduate School and highlighted the coordination between SGSR and the various Departments in terms of teaching activities and resources.

The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar, drew upon her educational journey, offering inspiration with Victor Hugo’s quote, “He who opens a school door, closes prison.” She emphasized the liberating power of education and the exceptional quality of tuition at GCTU. Dr. Abubakar encouraged innovation, regular attendance, on-time assignment submissions and student participation in lecturer evaluations. She concluded her presentation with a timeless quote from Benjamin Franklin: “An Investment in Knowledge always pays the best interest.”

The Director of Research, Innovation, and Consultancy, Prof. George Kofi Amoako, provided valuable insights into research excellence. He stressed the importance of students’ adherence to supervisors’ instructions and the forthcoming graduate research policy guidelines. Prof. Amoako urged students to leverage the school’s resources, including the library and credible online sources for their research projects.

 

The Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Martin Mabeifam Ujakpa, highlighted the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and GCTU’s commitment to computer science excellence. He noted the programme’s alignment with the ACM curriculum and praised the experienced faculty.

 

The Head of Administration at SGSR, Mr. Mark Ofori Nketia, guided students through the institution’s Academic Policies and Regulations, underlining the importance of providing accurate information. He encouraged students to visit the appropriate offices for issue resolution and assured them of management’s commitment to their welfare.

Mr. Nketia also provided essential information on tuition policies and account management.

In closing, Mr. Clinton Ofosu, GRASAG President took the opportunity to urge the newly admitted students to join the association, emphasizing its role in enhancing students’ activities and welfare. He assured students that his office remained open to ideas and suggestions, working diligently to integrate GCTU GRASAG into the National GRASAG activities.
